Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle : Self Drive Hire

With one of the largest and most diverse accessible vehicle fleets in Europe our aim is to offer a comprehensive hire service for those with specialist transport requirements. Our range of vehicles is totally unique ranging from wheelchair accessible compact saloon cars right through to adapted executive MPVs with both manual and automatic gearbox options throughout the range. Our standard published hire rates include comprehensive insurance (subject to status) for drivers typically aged from 25 to 70 (older or younger drivers pay a little more) and we offer a nationwide delivery and collection service for those who are unable to collect or return their hire vehicle to us. Please note. 7 days is our minimum hire period.


Rates are available for weekly (7 days or more), four weekly and long term hire terms; the longer the term the better the rate. Those requiring extended hire periods of 4 months or more or those needing specialist adaptations can request a bespoke quotation. Hire rates quoted are for private disabled use and are normally exempt from VAT charges. Others hirers such as local authorities, businesses or health authorities are liable for additional VAT charges.

Group 1   
Compact wheelchair accessible cars
Suzuki Wagon R Liberty, Vauxhall Agila Liberty :- These compact yet amazingly spacious, lowered floor adapted vehicles are ideal for those needing wheelchair access in a smaller more manageable vehicle. They typically have two additional seats. ie the driver and the front passenger. Wheelchair access is via a light weight fold out ramp to lowered rear floor section.

Group 2
Standard wheelchair accessible vehicles (WAVs)
Renault Kangoo , Citroen Berlingo, Fiat Doblo, Peugeot Partner :- These medium sized accessible vehicles offer flexibility and practicality offering more space and additional seated passengers . They have three seats in addition to the wheelchair passenger. ie the driver, the front passenger and an additional rear seat. Peugeot Partner has an additional fold back twin seat offering five seats where no wheel-chair passenger is present.

Group 3
Larger wheelchair accessible vehicles
Fiat Scudo/Panorama , Citroen Dispatch, Peugeot Expert/Tepee, Volkswagen Transporter T5 :- These more spacious accessible vehicles are suited to taller wheelchair passengers or those requiring additional seating options. Typical
access adaptations may include lowered floors, fold out ramps or powered access winches. Seating layouts vary with the type of conversion from three to five seats in addition to the wheelchair passenger/s.

Group 4
Wheelchair accessible MPVs
Mercedes Vaneo, Volkswagen Sharan, SEAT Alhambra, Kia Sedona Ser.1 :-
Generally more stylish and luxurious, these superbly adapted MPV's tend to
have four or more passenger seats with a lowered floor with a short fold out
ramp for ease of access for the wheelchair passenger. Mercedes Vaneo in
particular is popular with taller wheelchair users with circa 60 inches of head-room

Group 5
Large accessible vehicles
Renault Master AXS, Fiat Ducato AXS :- These larger minibus style vehicles can
accommodate one or more wheelchairs with typically from three to six additional
passenger seats. They are still classed as 'cars' and do not require a special
driving license category. Wheelchair access is usually achieved with an on-
board powered wheelchair lift but we also have larger accessible vehicles with
fold out ramps and powered access winches where preferred. Certain vehicles
may be available for multiple wheelchair requirements subject to availability.

Group 6
Wheelchair accessible executive MPVs
Kia Sedona S II, New Ford Galaxy Liberty, Chrysler Grand Voyager, Volkswagen
Caravelle :- Exclusively available from RentaWAV, these prestigious wheelchair
accessible luxury MPVs are the most refined and dignified solutions for those
requiring discreet executive transportation. They typically accommodate four or
more seated passengers along with the wheelchair passenger and access is
via a short fold out ramp to a lowered floor area. Volkswagen Caravelle may also
be available with either a wheelchair lift or simple ramp system if preferred.
